    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is balanced dog training?

In it’s simplest form, Balanced Dog Training refers to any approach to dog training or behavior modification which involves the use of both reward based techniques, and aversive consequences. In other words, the trainer shows the dog that their choices and behaviors can result in either pleasant or unpleasant results.

What are the conditions for joining our board and train program?

In order to participate in our board and train program, you must agree to crate train your dog. They will spend some time in their crates during the day and sleep in them at night. It is common for all dogs to need an adjustment period to a new environment. I do not work with dogs who have severe separation anxiety. If your dog shows any severe signs that could cause a safety concern like biting at the crate, digging to get out, extreme stress behaviors like panting or drooling, Obey My Commands may not be able to work with your dog. Obey My Commands is a one-man show and does not have the resources to work through severe crate behaviors.

***Your dog’s Rabies, Bordetella, and Distemper vaccinations must also be current.***

How much training will my dog receive per day during the board and train?

Dogs wake up around 6:00 a.m. and begin their training. They will alternate between active training sessions, passive training sessions, play time, and crate time during the day. They will also be taken on regular walks and public outings to enable them to practice real life scenarios. Dogs will get their last toileting opportunity around 10 p.m. before going to their crates at night.

Then, during the consultation, I’ll go through what needs to be done and how to go about doing it, including scheduling and other details.
